RENO, NV (Aug. 7) — The annual festival celebrating classic cars is rolling along. Hot August takes over Reno, Sparks and for a couple of days, Virginia City.
One feature of downtown Reno is the Big Boy’s Toy Store. It features accessories, parts, all kind of tools and t-shirts all in one place.
The is also a contest and some of the winning vehicles were on display. Both trucks and cars were there.
One popular booth features neon signs. These are small enough to be placed in a home and had more than few people looking at them.
Outside and a block away Virginia Street was crowded as cars were parked in the downtown area. This is a large daily Show ‘N Shine.
Looking toward the arch one can see how crowded it was and many were admiring the cars on display.
Over in Sparks there were cars parked along Victorian. This included an almost matching pair of Mustangs.
While there is a cruise in downtown Reno there is also one in Sparks. The cruise begins with motorcycle units leading everyone and right behind them is a mounted posse.
As expected there were some very different cars and/or trucks in the cruise. One of them was the 1930’s era Ford truck.
The cruise wasn’t a solid parade of cars, vans, trucks and modified vehicles. One group had a VW Bus leading it. Several vehicles were tossing candy to the kids that were spectators.
Over on the west side of the Sparks Nugget a small drag strip is set up for racing. This has been a tradition for years and this time all the slots were taken.
As usual there were burnouts while others smoked their tires during a race. There was even a Tesla sedan racing.
Hot August Nights runs full bore through Saturday evening. Not only are they cars, a swap meet but entertainment at various venues every night.
On Sunday is the Grand Finale Parade that starts at UNR, north of downtown. Those participating in HAN cruise down Virginia Street all the way to the Atlantis where they enter the Convention Center area.
After that all the awards are handed out and folks pack up as they prepare to head home…
