Thirteen people have died on Beaufort County roadways so far in 2025, with all but one fatal collision happening on major highways like U.S. 278, U.S. 21 and S.C. 170.
The deaths as of Aug. 7 included three pedestrians, two motorcyclists and two bicyclists. One of those pedestrians and one bicyclist were killed in suspected hit-and-runs, neither of which had yet resulted in an arrest.
So far this year, roadway deaths have occurred at a slower rate than in 2024. By this time last year, officials had reported 17 traffic fatalities…
