Southeast Georgia Road Work to Bring Traffic Interruptions Aug. 9–15

GEORGIA – The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has issued its weekly traffic interruption advisory for Southeast Georgia, warning drivers of planned lane closures, detours, and delays from Friday, August 9, through Thursday, August 15.

The work will span multiple counties, with GDOT urging motorists to plan ahead, slow down in work zones, and be mindful of workers on-site. Most closures will occur during off-peak hours, but some projects will require extended lane restrictions.

Counties and Roads Affected

According to GDOT, the advisory covers Interstates, U.S. Highways, and State Routes in the following counties:

  • Appling
  • Bulloch
  • Camden
  • Chatham
  • Effingham
  • Glynn
  • Liberty
  • Long
  • McIntosh
  • Screven
  • Ware
  • Wayne

Specific projects will include pavement resurfacing, bridge maintenance, drainage work, and road shoulder repairs, with crews operating during daytime and overnight shifts depending on location.

Key Impact Areas

  • I-95 in Glynn and Camden Counties – Expect intermittent lane closures for maintenance and striping work.
  • US 17 in McIntosh County – Shoulder repairs and drainage improvements may cause brief delays.
  • I-16 in Chatham County – Nighttime lane closures for resurfacing between Exit 157 and Exit 166.
  • SR 21 in Effingham County – Bridge inspection work will require alternating lane closures.

GDOT notes that emergency maintenance projects may be added to the schedule with short notice.

Motorist Safety Reminders

Officials emphasize the importance of reducing speed in work zones, staying alert for workers and equipment, and following posted detours. Violating Georgia’s “Move Over Law” in construction areas can result in significant fines.
