History Corner: Miss Pearson Park 1949

Dorothy Rideout Leonhardt was chosen Miss Pearson Park in 1949. She is pictured here with George Pearson, for whom the park was named when it opened in 1934. Pearson was the East Side reporter for The Blade for 50 years, and his articles were instrumental in saving the land to become a park. Dorothy is still an active member of the East Toledo Historical Society and the Oregon-Jerusalem Historical Society. She was also the last young lady chosen for the honor, so she still officially holds the title of Miss Pearson Park…
