Omaha, Neb. – Severe thunderstorms are expected to sweep across much of eastern and south-central Nebraska tonight, prompting a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 4 a.m. Sunday for 33 counties, including Douglas, Lancaster, Sarpy, and Buffalo. The National Weather Service warns storms could produce damaging winds over 70 mph and hail up to two inches in diameter.
According to the NWS Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Okla., the watch covers both urban centers like Omaha and Lincoln and rural areas from Adams County east to Richardson County. Storms will continue developing and moving east overnight, with the greatest threat for damaging wind gusts between midnight and 3 a.m.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge mobile devices, and remain indoors away from windows during severe weather. Travel may be hazardous, especially along I-80, U.S. 77, and U.S. 6, where reduced visibility and debris are possible…
