Controversial commentator Skip Bayless has launched a blistering attack on the recently released “Happy Gilmore 2,” expressing his deep offense at the golf-themed comedy sequel. The film, starring Adam Sandler and featuring cameos from PGA Tour stars Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler, has been met with mixed reactions, but Bayless’s critique stands out for its intensity.
In an 11-minute segment shared on his show and social media, Bayless slammed the film, calling it “Unhappy 2” and criticizing the portrayal of Happy Gilmore’s sons and John Daly’s character. He lamented the participation of golf legends like Jack Nicklaus and Lee Trevino, accusing the movie of “blasphemous ridicule” of the sport. Bayless compared the film unfavorably to “Caddyshack,” which he considers a classic, arguing that while “Caddyshack” laughs with golf, “Happy Gilmore” laughs at it.
He described Sandler’s character as a “sour, foul sociopath” and called his onscreen children “psycho hooligans.” Bayless also dismissed fans of the original “Happy Gilmore” as the “dumb and dumber crowd,” suggesting the sequel was made solely to attract them to a golf-themed movie.
While acknowledging his own tendency to take golf “way too seriously,” Bayless doubled down on his criticism, reiterating his disapproval of the film’s comedic portrayal of the sport.
