The Blount County Board of Commissioners will take its first crack at providing the organization that will guide the county’s celebration of the nation’s 250th Independence Day when it meets for its workshop session on Tuesday at the courthouse.
The countdown towards marking 250 years since the Declaration of Independence was signed is underway with less than 11 months remaining until the semiquincentennial. Among items on the agenda for the August workshop session is a resolution to form the “Blount County 250th Anniversary Celebration Coordinating Committee” also called Blount 250 for short.
With 12 of the 21 commissioners, including Mike Akard, Jared Anderson, Brad Bowers, Nick Bright, Quentin Caldwell, Rick Carver, John Giles, Jessica Hannah, Jeff Jopling, Steve Mikels, Dawn Reagan and David Wells, sponsoring the resolution, its passage to the full board on Thursday, Aug. 21, appears likely…
