Sacramento’s Homelessness Crisis, City Closes Over 750 Calls and Clears 38 Tons of Waste in Latest Effort

The City of Sacramento has issued its latest progress report through the City’s Incident Management Team (IMT), shoring up efforts to address homelessness issues. Between July 28 and last Sunday, there were 1,798 calls made to the city’s 311 customer service regarding individuals without shelter. According to the report, outlined on the Sacramento City Express, the IMT successfully closed 757 calls, signifying resolutions or compliance had been seemingly achieved, or the reported concerns had dissipated upon staff inspection.

Efforts to provide aid took concrete form with the City’s Department of Community Response enrolling 73 homeless individuals into databases designed to connect them with shelters and other vital resources. A part of the outreach efforts also saw placement of 13 people either into the City’s Roseville Road campus or the Outreach and Engagement Center (OEC), as detailed in the weekly report by the Sacramento City Express. Despite these efforts, vacancies still remain — one Pallet home, one trailer at Roseville, and 15 slots at the OEC, along with an average of 24 openings at other city funded shelters.
