WESTBOROUGH — The Affordable Housing Trust tightened the eligibility requirements for the Westborough Rental Assistance Program (WRAP) at its Aug. 8 meeting after four fraudulent applications were identified among those submitted.
Two of the applications were initially flagged as fraudulent by Metro West Collaborative Development, a Newton-based nonprofit partner in the Westborough initiative, after program administrators started initiating payments, prompting a review of all applications; two more were identified as likely cases of fraud shortly thereafter.
The funds for the four applications, which totaled over $18,000, were immediately halted, according to AHT Chair Allen Edinberg. Authorities in Newton are investigating the matter, but the alleged offenders appear to be out of state, Edinberg said…
