Austin’s Ann and Roy Butler Trail faces potential closures amid I-35 project

AUSTIN, Texas — The beloved Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail, that runs alongside Lady Bird Lake, could face intermittent closures over the next eight years due to the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) I-35 Capital Express Central Project.

The project aims to reconstruct the I-35 bridge over Lady Bird Lake, with full closures expected to be minimal and limited to late-night hours between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. However, some sections of the trail could be closed for up to a week at a time, three times per year, raising concerns among local residents.
