A Colfax man convicted of two felonies by a Jasper County jury for shooting at a man who entered his driveway, was sentenced to two simultaneous five-year prison sentences this week. District Court Judge Terry Rickers has also ordered 69-year-old Norman Wayne Hopkins to pay $2,050 in fines. In late June, at the end of a four-day trial, a jury found Hopkins guilty of intimidation with a dangerous weapon, a class C felony, and going armed with intent, a class D felony.
Hopkins claimed he was standing his ground on June 5th, 2024, when he repeatedly shot at an Altoona man with a .45-caliber pistol. According to court testimony, the victim, who was not injured, drove to Hopkins’ residence in a pick-up and was fired upon when he entered the driveway. Jasper County…..
