WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Students across North Carolina are starting the 2025-26 school year under warm, summer-like conditions with highs in the 80s and the potential for scattered storms, according to WXII 12 News.
Schools Opening Early in Some Districts
While most schools begin classes on Wednesday, August 13, some districts welcomed students back on Monday, August 11. These include Lexington City Schools, the Arts Based School and Forsyth in Winston-Salem, Stokes Early College High School in Walnut Cove, and Uwharrie Charter Academy in Asheboro.
Morning conditions will be mild and muggy, with lows in the 60s from Greensboro and Winston-Salem west toward Wilkesboro. By the afternoon, expect T-shirt and shorts weather as temperatures climb into the upper 70s and low 80s.
Backpacks Should Include Rain Gear
Forecasters are advising parents and students to pack rain jackets and umbrellas this week. Morning showers and afternoon thunderstorms are possible each day, making it wise to check the WXII 12 First Warning Interactive Radar before heading to bus stops.
