The Big Story

Fire departments and first responders in western North Carolina are among those slated to receive the latest wave of Hurricane Helene recovery grants. Those funds will be sourced through the $700 million bipartisan relief bill Gov. Josh Stein signed into law.

Fire departments and rescue squads can receive a $50,000 grant to help replace damaged equipment and facilities, as well as enhance wildfire preparedness initiatives.
