TAMPA, Fla. — A Lakeland woman has rescued hundreds of horses from winding up in a slaughterhouse. Erika Gilbert brings the horses to Lakeland from several states around the country.
On a recent morning, Gilbert was going through her morning routine with the rescue horses.
“This is Mallory, and she is an American Saddlebred,” she said as she was putting bridle on Mallory. “And Mallory will come up and get all cleaned up and get some fly spay before she goes out for the day.”…
