Former director of Sedgwick County Zoo dies

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The Sedgwick County Zoo announced on Monday that the former executive director had passed away. Mark Reed died on Friday after a battle with cancer at his home in Delaware.

Reed oversaw significant growth and expansion while working at the zoo, which culminated in the opening of the Reed Family Elephants of the Zambezi River Valley habitat in 2016. The zoo credited his foresight and leadership with it being considered one of the best in the world. He retired in 2016 after a 45-year career.

A memorial has been established in Mark’s name with the Sedgwick County Zoo. It was his wish that memorial recognition be used for the Our Growing Herd campaign, of which Mark served as honorary chair. Gifts can be made online at scz.org/donate or by calling 316-266-8288…
