Trial in Arvin educator’s death postponed to October

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The trial of the man charged in the death of longtime Arvin educator Larry Hallum has been postponed while attorneys await a ruling on whether certain evidence — including blood alcohol content findings — will be suppressed.

Marque Qualls’ trial on murder and other charges was pushed back Monday to Oct. 27.

Qualls, 28, was arrested after the Feb. 15, 2023, crash that fatally injured Hallum at the intersection of Old River Road and White Lane. Police said in court documents he admitted trying to kill himself by intentionally crashing…
