Man who shot at Lyndhurst officers sent to prison for 16 years

CLEVELAND (WJW) — A 21-year old man was sentenced to 16 years in prison after pleading guilty to several charges including the felonious assault of two Lyndhurst police detectives in October 2022.

A FOX 8 I-Team camera was rolling as Abu Hakim was sentenced by Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Kevin Kelly Monday morning.

Hakim apologized to the officers, all of the victims and his family prior to sentencingLyndhurst Police Chief Patrick Rhode asked the judge to sentence Hakim to the maximum prison sentence.

“I stand before you not just as a police chief, but on behalf of a troubled community,” Rhode said. “Two officers were ambushed in the line of duty, their lives nearly stolen in an instant by a violent, calculated and cowardly act. The charge before your court demands the strongest response our justice system can deliver.”
