Convicted felon from Leesburg caught with ammunition during traffic stop

A Leesburg man was arrested after being stopped for suspicious behavior and caught with ammo in his trunk.

An officer observed 55-year-old Mark Alessandra in a black Land Rover traveling north near the intersection of County Road 466 and U.S. 301 at 9:50 p.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.

The officer got behind the vehicle, and it turned westbound onto County Road 466 followed by an evasive turn into the parking lot of Wawa, located at 11770 N U.S. Hwy. 301. The vehicle briefly parked before leaving, at which point the officer noticed it had an inoperable tag or registration lights. He continued following the vehicle toward the southern exit onto County Road 466, where it again made a suspicious and evasive maneuver, the report said.

Alessandra immediately parked in the nearest parking spaces, which the officer thought was abnormal behavior not consistent with a reasonable, law-abiding person. The officer then saw Alessandra get out of the vehicle and tamper with the rear driver’s side taillight while cautiously watching the officer drive by him.
