ATV driver arrested after injuring task force member and damaging police car in Wilmington

A Jacksonville man has been arrested after striking a Wilmington Police Department Officer and a police vehicle with his ATV, according to the Wilmington Police Department.

On Saturday, Aug. 9, around 10:45 p.m., WPD officers and deputies from the Downtown Task Force (DTF) observed an ATV that WPD says was being operated recklessly in downtown Wilmington near South Front and Dock Street. A member of the task force attempted to initiate a traffic stop, at which point the ATV briefly came to a stop.

The task force deputy attempted to detain the suspect, Juawan Ferguson, 32, of Jacksonville, who WPD says accelerated and struck the deputy with the ATV and also collided with a WPD patrol vehicle…
