Jackson renters get more space for their money: report

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – For those who prioritize value when it comes to renting, a new report indicated that Jackson is among the best destinations nationally.

With housing costs at an all-time high, the average age of a home buyer nationally is 38 years old. As a result, for many in the capital city, the only affordable housing option is an apartment. According to RentCafe, Jackson renters with a $1,500 budget get the fifth-best value for their money nationally among major cities.

The average apartment rent is $1,055 with 926 square feet. The same-size apartment in Santa Clarita, California, is $2,541. If a Jackson resident were to spend $1,500 on rent monthly, they would get an apartment with around 1,317 square feet. That is the fourth-best value among small major cities and the fifth-best value among all major cities nationally.

However, other factors than price may be worth considering before moving to the capital city. Violence in and around apartment complexes trumps other areas of the Jackson metro.
