Central Terminal celebrates a clean Waiting Room

The following update is re-posted with permission from the Central Terminal Restoration Corp.

Let’s dive right in: We’re happy to report that for the first time in decades, the Passenger Concourse’s Waiting Room is now clear of debris. This is a vital step forward during Phase 2 Construction, which aims to reopen the Passenger Concourse for limited public use, stabilize the Main Terminal Building’s high-priority areas, and seal the building against the elements.

Decades of vandalism, neglect, and water infiltration took their toll. By 2017, the once-glorious Waiting Room looked, well, like this (see above right). We, Buffalo Construction Consultants (BCC), and Quinn Evans developed the best strategy to clean the Waiting Room and preserve the historic elements. We engaged Mark Cerrone Inc. to empty and clean the Waiting Room and the connected restrooms, Women’s Lounge, and commercial rental space (which once featured a circulating library, news stand, and novelty shop).
