Coalition to hold statewide listening sessions aimed at serving ‘legal deserts’

OMAHA — A coalition of justice advocates will host a series of public listening sessions to address Nebraska’s “legal deserts” and help expand access to legal services where they are scarce.

The first forum is scheduled for Aug. 19, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the Learning Community Center of North Omaha, 1612 N. 24th St.

Sessions are designed to engage Nebraskans, particularly members of Black, Native American, Latino, immigrant and rural communities who disproportionately face barriers in accessing legal support and in navigating the justice system, the coalition said in a statement…
