ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – A close-call involving a plane forces Auburn and Jefferson High Schools’ to re-configure their sports schedules.
A plane flying into Cottonwood Airport clipped the light bank on one of Wyeth Stadium’s posts and knocked out the light. RPS says it’s Facilities Team is evaluating the best options to repair it.
Rockford Public Schools sent out a notice Monday, highlighting key details of upcoming changes to outdoor sports events.
Updates include:
- Daytime sports events will continue as scheduled.
- Night games at Wyeth Stadium will be relocated or rescheduled.
- Auburn High School and Jefferson High School will post updated schedules on their athletic websites.
- Swanson Stadium at Guilford High School will remain available to support student athletes at this time.
A majority of Jefferson’s home games, which will take place at Guilford’s Swanson Stadium, will be played on Thursday nights this season. However, a Freeport game, later in the schedule, will remain on Friday night at Swanson.
Also straying away from ‘Friday Night Lights,’ Auburn will still play at Wyeth Stadium but on Saturday afternoons…
