GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Through balloons, candles and prayer, friends and family remembered the life of 38-year-old Randy Campbell, who was shot and killed in Grand Rapids Sunday night.
Grand Rapids police say at 7:10 p.m. Sunday, officers were sent to Logan Street and Diamond Avenue SE for a report of a shooting. Officers found Campbell with at least one gunshot wound lying on the sidewalk in front of a house on Diamond Avenue. First responders tried to help Campbell but he died at the scene, according to GRPD Chief Eric Winstrom.

Monday night, a silver “38” balloon was attached the fence right over the sidewalk he was found on. The single candle and set of flowers quickly grew as dozens gathered for a vigil.
A prayer lead into family sharing a few memories about their brother, uncle, father and son. Messages written on ballons were later released as the dozens in the crowd said “Rest in Peace Pale,” using one of Campbell’s nicknames.
