HUNTSVILLE, AL — The future home of the U.S. Space Command (SPACECOM) headquarters remains one of the most closely watched decisions in both Alabama and national defense circles. While Washington has yet to make a final determination, confidence is running high among local leaders and residents that Huntsville will ultimately secure the coveted designation.
At the heart of the optimism is Redstone Arsenal, a sprawling military and federal hub that already houses a significant portion of the nation’s aerospace, missile defense, and military command infrastructure. Huntsville was named the Air Force’s preferred location for SPACECOM in January 2021 after a competitive evaluation process that assessed sites across the country on mission capability, cost efficiency, workforce availability, and quality of life.
