Joliet police mourn the passing of K-9 officer Daniel Willis

JOLIET, Ill. (WGN) — Joliet police are mourning the death of a longtime police officer, who the department says passed away unexpectedly on Monday .

K-9 Officer Daniel Willis, 52, was a dedicated 20-year veteran of the Joliet Police Department. He first began his law enforcement career with the Palos Hills Police Department. Willis would then serve as a Sheriff’s Deputy with the Cook County Sheriff’s Office and later as an officer with the Chicago Police Department, according to Joliet police.

Willis would then join Joliet police in 2005. Most recently, Willis served in the department’s K-9 unit alongside his partner, K-9 Andy. He was also a member of the Joliet Police Honor Guard.

Willis died Aug. 11 as a result of complications from a medical procedure while off duty, according to Joliet police…
