BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — When a street in Battle Creek became submerged under knee-deep water amid heavy rain on Tuesday, a group of people decided to step up, or rather into, floodwaters to help their neighbors.

Several vehicles stalled in the road as a chunk of Emmett Street became engulfed by water, according to witnesses. The occupants of one the vehicles that got stuck, and was pulled out by a pickup truck, said they decided to pay forward the kind gesture.
