Prichard police officer accused of withholding evidence, sending explicit images: MCSO

PRICHARD, Ala. (WKRG) — Mobile County Sheriff’s Office deputies have arrested a Prichard Police Department officer who allegedly withheld evidence during an arrest and sent explicit images from the arrestee’s phone to that man’s wife.

According to an MCSO news release, Malachi Ligon, a PPD officer, arrested a man on Aug. 11 on charges of third-degree domestic violence and resisting arrest.

Officials said Ligon took the man’s phone during the arrest, but did not process it as evidence at the jail; instead, he allegedly went into the phone and “accessed its contents without a search warrant.”

Ligon then allegedly forwarded “explicit private images and videos” from the man’s phone to his wife.

Once MCSO officials received this tip, they began their investigation, which consisted of witness interviews, reviewing evidence, getting search warrants, and interviewing Ligon, according to the release…
