East Providence breaks ground on $16 million community center

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Construction is getting underway on a new $16 million community center in East Providence that will offer services for residents of all ages.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place Tuesday morning on Waterman Avenue, where the community center will eventually be located.

East Providence Mayor Bob DaSilva said the project is being funded entirely by state and federal money, with a significant portion coming from the American Rescue Plan Act.

The 19,446 square-foot facility will offer recreational programming, job training and health monitoring services. There will also be spaces for community meetings, out-of-school learning and digital literacy training…
