A tragic incident unfolded on a quiet street in Little Havana, where a targeted shooting claimed the life of one man and left another seriously injured. The violence erupted at approximately 6:44 p.m. yesterday, in the vicinity of Southwest 4th Street and 10th Avenue. Miami Police report a vehicle approached two men standing on the sidewalk; a shooter exited the car and opened fire, striking both individuals.

The swift and brash action saw one of the victims die at the scene, whom family members identified as 42-year-old Juan Chaneton, a father of four. The second victim, a man in his 60s, was hit in the leg and swiftly taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, as detailed in reports by NBC Miami. His current condition is described as critical.

The incident is being meticulously investigated by local authorities, intent to piece together the exact sequence of events that led to this fatal encounter. According to Officer Michael Vega, cited by Local 10, one person of interest was detained at the scene. In a bid to preserve the integrity of his testimony, Vega explained, “We want to make sure he’s secluded and that he’s not fed information, false information from anyone else on scene, saying ‘Oh, it was this that happened,’ when in his mind he knows what he saw and maybe that will be more valuable to us than having hearsay from him.”…
