When someone in Fort Collins gets an alert about staying away from somewhere, they get a little worried. When the “all clear” doesn’t go out for more than 12 hours later, you really worry about what was happening.
Being a sheriff deputy in Colorado can be scary, as in any state; you never know exactly the scene you’re walking into. It really goes for any officer or person of the courts. I remember an incident in Loveland where a process server was killed; so sad and terrifying.
Eviction Leads to 13-Hour Standoff in Fort Collins, Colorado
On August 7, 2025. according to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were sent to get someone who’d been evicted, out of their home. That person was aware of the eviction but had not vacated, so the deputies had to go and get him out, per the court order.
Phones in the area were sent an alert at around 9:30 about staying away from the 2600 block of LaPorte Avenue due to police activity. There would be another alert, later in the day, saying to still stay away. I know I was concerned that things were still unsafe, after so many hours.

It turns out, after deputies tried for an hour to get the man occupying the home, Kevin Lee Walker, to come out, they went in. Walker was in the home pointing a long gun at the deputies; they backed out of the house and called for assistance…
