D.A. won’t seek charges against officers in deadly shooting of armed suspect

District Attorney Spencer Merriweather said his office won’t pursue criminal charges against four Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers who were involved in the March 7 fatal shooting of Reggie Allen Knight.

Merriweather, after reviewing CMPD’s investigation, concluded that officers Austin Bartlow, Charles Lineberger, Jonathan Nicholas and Michael Wilson Jr. were justified in using deadly force after Knight, 28, fired at them during an attempted arrest.

The deadly encounter began when the officers went to a home on Headquarters Farm Road to serve Knight with multiple arrest warrants. The warrants were for a variety of charges, including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, assault with a deadly weapon, and probation violations…
