New Propeller Test Flight Ends in Minor Injuries After Engine Failure Causes Plane Crash in Lake Worth Beach

Last month’s plane crash in Lake Worth Beach has been linked to an engine power failure during a test flight, after the aircraft had a new propeller installed. This accident, which involved an Orlican M-8 Eagle, resulted in minor injuries to six individuals when it struck a car and park fencing before halting on a sidewalk. According to reports from the WSVN, the plane experienced the critical loss of engine power just a minute into the flight.

The incident unfolded shortly before 4:30 p.m. on July 28, when the plane, which is normally used for island hopping in the Caribbean, was forced to attempt an emergency landing on a road near John Prince Park Campground. The WPBF reports that the aircraft initially collided with a palm tree, before subsequently crashing into a 2020 Toyota Camry carrying three adults and two children and clipping the park’s fencing, ultimately coming to rest on the sidewalk.

The two men aboard the aircraft were identified as Duncan Maclaren, 29, of Delray Beach, and Thomas Peters, 51, of Oranjestad, Aruba. One of the men is a private pilot, who owned the plane, while the other is a flight instructor. The National Transportation Safety Board’s preliminary report, as obtained by the WPBF, has not yet clarified which individual was piloting the plane at the time of the crash…
