CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A new house bill aims to change how school districts across Texas handle discipline in the classroom.
Corpus Christi ISD Director for Student Services Ron Kanipes said the goal is to better support educators and help ensure a safe learning environment for everyone.
“So if a student misbehaves and they break the student code of conduct, then it’s up to the campus administrator. He’ll deal with it or she’ll deal with it,” Kanipes said. “They’ll do an investigation and depending on the seriousness of the incident, they’ll determine a consequence which could be in school suspension, out of school suspension, or they could even recommend removal to the discipline campus but like I said, depends on the severity of the incident.”…
