NIXA, Mo. (KY3) – On Tuesday’s Nixa city council meeting, the council is expected to hear the first reading of Council bill 2025-25 that seeks to grant a special use permit to build a taproom in the middle of a neighborhood. This move has mixed views from people living near the proposed site.
The developer plans to construct a taproom and restaurant on a three-acre parcel of land near Old Castle and Tracker roads, along with a second restaurant featuring a drive-through. The Nixa Planning and Zoning Commission held a public meeting last week to hear the initial proposal. As for the parcel itself, it’s currently zoned as a neighborhood commercial zoning district. As such, some commercial developments could be built that wouldn’t require a special use permit, but a bar with a restaurant isn’t one of them.
“It’s more of the zoning district that they’re located in,” said Scott Godbey, Nixa director of planning and development. “So, we have a neighborhood commercial zoning district, which is usually a small-scale zoning district when located within a neighborhood, and because of the land use, trying to get into this zoning district, that’s what requires a special use permit.”
