WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Sedgwick County officials are exploring whether to sell part of Northeast Sedgwick County Park, but federal restrictions currently make that impossible.
The park is on the Land and Water Conservation Fund list, which limits the land use for recreation only. The park can be removed from the list by Congress.
The park is 650 acres in the northeast part of Sedgwick County. It has a sign at the entrance and two paved accessible parking spaces, and the rest of the gravel parking lot is overgrown with weeds. The park features several mowed walking paths. It’s not developed, like the two other parks the county manages, Sedgwick County Park and Lake Afton.
Commissioner Pete Meitzner says the site sees little use and could be sold, in part, to fund other county amenities. He’s open to potential uses ranging from housing to commercial or industrial development…
