City and state lawmakers are open ears for new housing cost solutions

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albuquerque is facing a housing shortage. Inventory has slashed in half between 2018 and 2024.

Mayor Tim Keller’s office shared their “Housing Now” initiative Tuesday. It would allow property owners to voluntarily opt in to rezoning their commercial properties to residential or mixed-use housing.

“Now we know that we need housing all over the city,” said Keller at a press conference outside Range Cafe on Menaul. “That’s not lost on anyone. We know that we need about 20,000 units of housing. We know that we have neglected added housing for decades, and now it is finally catching up with us.”…
