Nevada seeks public input for 10-year outdoor recreation plan

RENO, Nev. — The Nevada Division of State Parks is calling on community members to help shape the future of outdoor recreation in the state. As part of the Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP), the division is seeking public feedback to guide priorities for the next decade.

Janice Keillor, Deputy Administrator of the Nevada Division of State Parks, explained the process: “We take all the data and we start analyzing all the results and we kind of look at what trends are emerging and what areas are people telling us they want to see more of.”

The SCORP plan, spanning from 2027 to 2036, will focus on identifying priorities for outdoor recreation across Nevada. It will also guide the department on how to allocate federal funds from the Land and Water Conservation Fund. Keillor said, “The program started in the 60s. We get a new apportionment every year of about $4 million. So we take that $4,000,000 and we use it for projects that are identified as priorities.”…
