EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – At the end of July, Lilly King officially wrapped up her swimming career, racing her final meet at the World Championships in Singapore.
King raced both the 50 and 100 meter distances in the breaststroke competition at Worlds, finishing 9th in the semis for the 100, and 5th in the final for the 50. It was part two of her goodbye tour, getting to swim with Team USA one final time, while back in June, she swam in front of a home crowd in Indianapolis at the USA Championships. Now, the bow has been tied on an incredible career that is highlighted by two Olympic Gold Medals.
“It’s felt like that for a really long time, probably the last two or three years,” said Lilly King. “I think I’ve done everything I’ve ever wanted to do in the sport. Any swimmer will tell you, when you’re done, you’re done, and I’ve been done for awhile. It feels very complete. I feel very full in my career. I’m at peace. It wasn’t a sad day the last day, it was definitely a celebration for me.”…
