Lansing man faces 17 felonies for disarming, shooting police

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A judge arraigned Andrial Ortiz on 17 felony charges after disarming multiple officers and shooting one in the leg.

The Lansing Police Department pulled over Ortiz, 30, from Lansing, on April 10, 2024. Officers arrested him after finding narcotics in his car during a consensual search. Ortiz resisted, according to the Michigan Attorney General’s (AG) office, and attempted to disarm both officers during a struggle.

Police say he then attempted to disarm an officer a third time and shot an LPD officer in the leg. A different officer then shot Ortiz in the leg once and took his gun, according to a news release from the AG’s office.

The shooting was reviewed by the AG, and said the LPD’s use of force was justified.
