Federal agents took a Cincinnati woman into custody today in Louisville, Kentucky. Ishwanzya Rivers, aged 46, faces charges of misappropriating over $148,000 from elderly or ill U.S. military veterans. Rivers, who was responsible for managing the funds on behalf of four veterans, has had allegations leveled against her that include making false statements to hide her fraudulent actions.
Caught in Louisville, documents claim Rivers stole from a dying elderly veteran who resided at the VA hospital in Cincinnati. Specifically, over $133,000 is said to have been misused by Rivers, accusing her of tapping into the veteran’s funds at least 45 times from June 2021 through November 2022. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, she is also alleged to have taken smaller sums from three other veterans, surpassing $15,000 in total.
Funding a lavish lifestyle, Rivers is alleged to have spent this money on shopping sprees, dining at expensive restaurants, and enjoying trips to a variety of international destinations, including New Orleans, Montego Bay, and even as far as Vienna and the Maldives.
