SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The I-81 Viaduct Project has endured through years of planning and, recently, many, many lane closures and traffic jams. But along with the promises of safer infrastructure and walkability, the project could yield something else: more art.
A series of mural concepts shows what the city could look like after all the construction is done and decorated with images representing “the city’s rich history as well as the spirit of the various communities,” according to a news release.

Marie Therese Dominguez, commissioner for the state’s Department of Transportation, unveiled the designs on Aug. 13, which include images of famous Syracusans, local landmarks, and positive quotes.
The murals would be on eight bridge abutments and about 140 feet of walls along Business Loop 81 and surrounding streets.
