WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – As Erin remains likely to become a strong hurricane just north of the Caribbean islands this weekend, thank you for staying with your First Alert Weather Team for important updates from a Cape Fear perspective. Your First Alert Forecast stocks medium thunderstorm chances for the remainder of the work week, then refreshingly lower rain odds for parts of the weekend and next week — provided Erin ultimately follows its most likely long-range track just east the Carolina Coast. Temperatures ought to consistently stab toward 90 degrees across the days; nights will tilt a little cooler over time as nice northerly breezes develop on the westernmost periphery of Erin’s circulation. Expect Erin’s ocean swell to build breakers to locally over three feet this weekend and perhaps over six for some Cape Fear beaches by next week; please beware of an uptick in dangerous rip currents over this time, especially if you are an inexperienced swimmer.
