This Day in History – August 14: Nebraska Celebrates V-Jay Day

August 14, 1945 – As Japan surrendered and World War II ended, people in Lincoln flooded the streets to celebrate.

Businesses closed and soldiers from the Lincoln Army Air Field joined the crowds too. Photos show celebrations going into the night and confetti raining down. Celebrations were peaceful aside from a few car accidents and some arrests for public intoxication.
