More lawsuits filed in Asheville I-40 car crash after Christ School prom that killed 2

ASHEVILLE – Two more lawsuits were filed against Christ School and a teen driver, accusing both of negligence in a high-speed crash that killed two high school passengers.

Abigail Robinson and the family of Sophie Gordon filed separate lawsuits on July 29 and July 25, respectively, in Mecklenburg County Superior Court against Christ School — an all-male boarding and day school in Arden — and the driver William Neumann, 19, of Augusta, Georgia. Robinson and Gordon were rear passengers in the car driven by Neumann after the Christ School prom in April 2024.

According to the suits, Neumann drove a 2014 Volvo sport utility vehicle April 6, 2024, on Interstate 40 at a speed of about 115 mph while using his cell phone camera to record the car’s speed on the speedometer. This detail is confirmed by a North Carolina State Highway Patrol search warrant executed two weeks after the crash for Neumann’s medical records and toxicology reports, according to a copy obtained by the Citizen Times…
