Nurdles continue to plague Lowcountry waters, posing environmental threat

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — The presence of plastic pellets, commonly known as nurdles, in Lowcountry waters remains a significant environmental concern, according to local advocacy groups.

First detected in the area in 2019, these pellets are still being found in alarming quantities.

“Plastic pellets or nurdles are a pervasive problem in our waterways,” said Andrew Wunderly of Charleston Waterkeeper. “We continue to find them at really high densities.”…
