Milton firefighters are getting a raise

MILTON, Fla. (WKRG) — Milton firefighters will soon see a bigger paycheck.

According to a Milton Fire Department news release, the city council voted Tuesday to approve the new contracts between the city and the Milton Professional Firefighters International Association of Fire Fighters Local 2944, which include an 8.25 percent raise to firefighter salaries, beginning in October.

“This increase will bring our wages in line with most of the surrounding fire departments,” Local President and Firefighter Ellis O’Steen said. “We really appreciate the city’s willingness to address this issue.”

Fire Chief John E. Reble said the highly competitive job market and wage data verified the need to increase salaries.

“We were able to reach an agreement that fairly compensates our firefighters and makes our department much more attractive to new applicants,” Reble said. He said the department currently has three openings…
