Teen jogger’s alleged attacker deemed unfit for trial

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – The man charged for the assault of a Roanoke teenager has been found unfit for trial, according to the victim’s mother, Amy Light.

In March 2025, police say, two teenagers were on a run near Patrick Henry High School when John Murphy Ellmore, Jr. approached and used a sharp object to attack one of the teens. The boy was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, but sustained a significant slash wound to his face. The other teen, his girlfriend, was not hurt.
