New Mexico Monsoon Alert: Heavy Rain, Lightning, and Small Hail Expected Into Early Next Week

Albuquerque, N.M. – Monsoon moisture will surge into New Mexico starting Friday, bringing the threat of localized heavy rainfall, dangerous lightning, and small hail through at least Tuesday. Afternoon and evening storms are expected to intensify as moisture spreads from the Arizona border into central and northern parts of the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, rain rates could exceed two inches per hour in stronger cells, raising flash flood concerns in normally dry arroyos, near burn scars, and in areas with already saturated ground. Hazardous travel is possible, especially in areas prone to rapid water rise.
