Folly Road safety changes coming to Bowens Island Road

FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (WCSC) – A Folly Beach road safety project is entering the permitting phase that would change the workings of the intersections at Bowens Island and Peas Island Roads.

Right now, two lanes of traffic on Folly Road merge into one just after passing by Bowens Island and Peas Island Roads. The project plan is to have the merge happen sooner at Sol Legare and create space for a middle lane that will become a designated left-turn lane for each side road.

On Tuesday, the town authorized $62,000 for the same firm that conducted a traffic study to begin the permitting process.
